Google doodle for 21 July
Even the VRT Tower here at our Broadcasting Centre is features. Google’s Belgian “doodle” has been designed Steebz Khan (a pseudonym for 42 year-old Steve Reggers from Riemst in Limburg.
"Our country is just about small enough to have seen all its nooks and crannies and it is fantastically suited to being mapped in all shapes and sizes. In the doodle I tried to bring as many landscapes together as possible.
A total of 20 landscapes of landmarks are shown as are 2 concepts that are symbolic for Belgium.
What can you recognise? The Royal Palace in Brussels and the market square. The Menin Gate in Ieper (West Flanders) and the (now defunct) mines in Genk (Limburg) also feature.
Long tradition of doodles
Google has a long tradition of using doodles to mark special dates or events. The first was in 1998 when Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin put a “Burning Man behind the second o in Google to mark the start of the burning man festival.
