Maalbeek metro attack remembered

King Filip and Queen Mathilde have led the nation in a ceremony of remembrance at Maalbeek metro station, one of the two scenes of the terrorist bomb attacks exactly a year ago. 32 people were killed and over 300 were injured when suicide bombers blew themselves up at Brussels Airport and Maalbeek metro station.

After a ceremony at Brussels Airport where the first blast occurred the royal couple arrived at Maalbeek Station by metro. Here too a minute's silence was held in remembrance of the victims.

As at Brussels Airport the King and Queen spoke with survivors and relatives as well as local transport company staff. A wreath was laid at the remembrance plaque. At 9:11AM, the exact time of the blast, a minute's silence was held.
