Scenes from Chernobyl 30 years after the nuclear disaster

An experiment in a reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in April 1986 went disastrously wrong and the rest as they say is history. Only with great effort did the Soviet authorities manage to gain control of the world's biggest civilian nuclear disaster. Today the Chernobyl site lies in independent Ukraine where a new shield is being placed over the former nuclear plant. Earlier this year VRT's Alexander Dumarey visited the site making the following photographs.
