Raw veg and yoghurt to replace sweets and biscuits!

Later today the education sector and several food manufacturers are to sign a new declaration of intent aimed at ensuring that school vending machines only contain healthy snacks and drinks.

Flemish education minister Hilde Crevits is the driving force behind the negotiations that also involved the Flemish care minister Jo Vandeurzen.

At present unhealthy snacks are already banned from all Flemish primary schools, but in 65% of secondary schools sugary drinks and sweets are still available.

Unhealthy snacks will now be phased out from all school vending machines. Sugary drinks will be replaced by water, sweets and biscuits by fruit, yoghurt and crudités or raw vegetables.
