Colruyt still Belgium's cheapest supermarket

As in previous years Colruyt remains cheapest for people who buy a mix of branded, home branded and basic products. Albert Heijn is 2% more expensive. Red Market, Delhaize's low cost store, is third cheapest.

Test-Aankoop noted the highest prices at Intermarché, Match and Smatch, where the price difference with the cheapest stores reached up to 15%. Here too the price difference is growing slimmer. Last year the price gap was as much as 16%.

Test-Aankoop believes that purchasing meat, vegetables and fruit at the cheapest store can save you 300 euros a year.

For people who only purchase branded products Colruyt and Red Market are the cheapest followed by Albert Heijn. OKay, Colruyt's neighbourhood store, is 5% more expensive.

Colruyt is also cheapest for basic products followed by Leader Price (+2%) and Albert Heijn (+4%). Leader Price offers the cheapest home brands with Colruyt and Albert Heijn 6% and 7% dearer.

Aldi and Lidl don't really make a difference between basic and home brands. Their products are cheaper than other supermarkets home brands, but if compared to basic products at other supermarkets have become more expensive.

Test-Aankoop compared 118,000 prices in 710 stores.
