Volvo Ghent to build 16,000 extra cars

The Volvo car factory in the East Flemish city of Ghent will build 16,000 more vehicles this year than was originally planned. A total of 15 overtime shifts will be worked this autumn and three days’ vacation around Christmas have been revoked.

Since the summer holidays 350 extra temporary staff have been taken on and 100 more are current been sought by the Swedish car-maker.

From 3 September to 17 December 15 extra weekend shifts will be worked on Saturday and Sunday. Furthermore three days’ vacation at the end of the year have been postponed until next year.

The 16,000 extra cars that are to be produced means that for the sixth year running Volvo Car Ghent will have produced more than a quarter of million cars before the end of the year.
