Belgium moves up competitiveness ranking
For the first time in five years Belgium has succeeded in improving its ranking in the World Economic Forum’s annual country competitiveness list. Belgium is now in 17th place, two places higher than last year’s 19th place. Belgium’s competitiveness score has been on the rise for the past few years.
However, this is the first time in five years that the improved score has translated itself into a higher position in the ranking.
Belgium scores particularly well when it comes to health care, education and training and the high level of technical development. The biggest hindrances to those wishing to do business here are tax levels and fiscal policy restrictive employment legislation and administrative red tape.
There is no change at the top with Switzerland topping the ranking with the 8th year running. The city state Singapore is second with the United States coming in third. The Netherlands has taken over from Germany as the highest-ranked EU country in 4th place. Germany is 5th.
