Standard tame the Pandas

It is onwards and upwards for Standard de Liège. Despite an embarrassing mid-week defeat in the Belgian Cup against 3rd Division Verbroedering Geel, Standard de Liège were able to pick themselves up and march on to a comfortable 3-0 against KAS Eupen. It was Standard’s 3rd straight league win.

Standard opened the scoring after just 7 minutes when Benito Raman scored what arguably was the easiest goal of his career. Eupen’s Blondelle can take most of the blame for Raman getting into a position where he couldn’t fail to find the back of the net. From then on it was all Standard.

García, Taulemesse and Onyekuru had half chances for the Pandas. At the other end Belfodil had the best chance of the rest of the half for Standard. An uninspired Eupen went 2-0 down when Edmilson found the back of the net on 55 minutes.

Only good work by the Eupen keeper Van Crombrugge prevented Standard from widening the score still further. Eupen went a man down on 70 minutes when Luis Garcia was sent off for his second bookable offence.

The Pandas seemed resigned to defeat the margin of which was made wider when Belfodil made it 3-0 to Standard on 90 minutes. The result sees Standard move up to 3rd place with 15 points from 8 games.

Eupen is 13th with 7 points.
