Belgian PM pokes fun at Donald Trump’s comments

The Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel (Francophone liberal) has poked fun at the comments made by the Republican candidate in the US presidential elections Donald Trump. He did so during a speech at the Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce in New York. After the 22 March attacks in Brussels, Mr Trump called our capital city a “hellhole”.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, Mr Michel told his audience of businesspeople “Ladies and gentlemen. I always forget his name, but there is a presidential candidate that has called Brussels is a hell hole. He wanted to be here tonight but were withdrew his invitation”. The intention of the speech was to try and attract investors to Belgium.

"Brussel is many things, but it is above all an international of the World’s third most globalised economy”.

Mr Michel didn’t call Mr Trump by name, but let it be known that he was not impressed with the presidential candidate’s comments.

The event was attended by many Belgian business people that are attractive in the United States and Belgian businesspeople with links to Belgium. Mr Michel travelled to New York for the General Assembly of the United Nations that took place earlier this week.
