Football fans make the earth move

The Royal Observatory in Ukkel (Greater Brussels) recorded a minor earth tremor during Belgium’s Euro 2016 match against Sweden on Wednesday. A peak in seismic activity was recorded just after Raja Angolan scored Belgium’s goal.

Thomas Lecco of the Belgian Royal Observatory’s Seismic Institute told VRT News that says that there is no doubt that Belgian Football supporters caused a mini-earthquake.

From the data recorded on a spectrogram it is clear to see that fans jumping up and down caused seismic activity and this was picked up at the Royal Observatory in Ukkel.

"We recorded a goal-quake on the Nainggolan Scale”, Mr Lecco joked in an interview with the Brussels regional news platform Bruzz.
