Lorry driver perishes in multiple pile-up
The E17 motorway was completely blocked last night following an accident outside Aalbeke involving three lorries heading in the direction of the French border. A 59-year-old Ukrainian lorrydriver was killed in the accident.
Traffic had to be diverted off the motorway causing considerable congestion.
Congestion is routine on this stretch of road ahead of the border checks. The Ukrainian driver noticed the jam too late and crashed into the lorry in front of him. His driver's cabin was gutted by fire. The driver could not be saved.
