King Filip too late for minute's silence

King Filip of the Belgians missed the start of the minute's silence for the victims of the Brussels attacks at the European Commission at noon. King Filip, Queen Mathilde and even the prime minister still had to find their place when the ceremony was already underway.

The Belgian court is usually a stickler for timing and good protocol, but is blaming the European Commission who was in charge this time.

The king and queen arrived at 11:50. They were welcomed by commission president Juncker and chatted with several deputy president before the commission's protocol service gave a sign, too late apparently.
