Postman dumps mail in Tervuren wood

It's not clear how much mail went missing, though the post office bpost insists that all mail has been recovered. It's believed that the postman dumped the mail in woodland on two or possibly three occasions.

The negligent postman, an agency worker, was uncovered following complaints from local residents who were not getting their mail that included the coveted local refuse calendar.

The post office doesn't like to say how much mail went missing, but it's thought at least 600 items have been recovered. Bpost says that they will be delivered "starting next week". The missing mail will be accompanied by a sorry note.

Local police have been alerted to the incident. The postman's colleagues suggest that he acted as a result of work pressure, though bpost's spokeswoman, Barbara Van Speybroeck, insists there was malicious intent: "With regard to work pressure issues we possess sufficient internal channels and procedures." The post office does not keep records about work pressure.

Bertem mayor, Joël Vander Elst, is not impressed: "It's been raining complaints. Residents are not getting their mail or only late. The post office doesn't seem to be listening."
