The Reds are back in business

Standard de Liège are moving out of the doldrums after a victory at Zulte Waregem lifted their top-6 hopes. In a spectacular match, Standard ended with just 9 men but took it 2-3 anyway, to further recover from a weak start to the season.
The Reds played in black yesterday.

Standard, dubbed the 'Rouches' (or Reds), are among the traditional 5 top clubs in Belgium, but completely missed their start, to such an extent that a top-6 spot is in jeopardy. After the regular competition with 30 days of play, only the best 6 teams will battle it out in a mini-competition for the title in spring, called Play-off 1.

Standard took an important step yesterday, winning at top-6 rivals Zulte Waregem 2-3 despite ending the match with just 9 men.

Tonight sees leaders and defending champions AA Gent playing at KRC Genk, the Limburgers who are also battling for a top-6 berth.
