An evening of mixed fortunes in the Europa League

It was an evening of mixed fortunes for Belgium’s two representatives in the UEFA Europa League. Sporting Anderlecht enjoyed a 2-0 win away to AS Monaco, while club Brugge, however Club Brugge lost their home game against Napoli 2-0.

The ongoing state of emergency in France meant that Anderlecht fans were not welcome for their teams match in AS Monaco’s Stade Louis II.

Anderlecht’s first goal came right at the end of the first half when Gillet hit the back of the net in the first minute of stoppage time.

The Anderlecht Coach Besnik Hasi decision to bring in Acheampong for Praet on 77 minutes paid off.

The Ghananian was on the pitch for 2 minutes before he put Sporting 2-0 up.

The 2-0 victory means that with 1 group stage game still left to play Sporting Anderlecht are second in Group J with 7 points from 5 games.

Club Brugge lose in empty stadium

In a game that was played in an empty stadium due to the terror threat, Club Brugge lost their home game against Napoli 1-0.

It was the Italian club’s first every win on Belgian soil. The match was disappointing and at times mind-numbing. Napoli’s goal came from Vlad Chiriches on 42 minutes.

Despite only having 4 points from 5 Group D games, Club Brugge can still qualify for the knock-out stage if they beat the Danish side FC Midtjylland in their final group stage match next month.
