After last Friday’s strike in the Brussels region, the Francophone wing of the socialist rail union has announced two more days of strike action in Wallonia for early next weekend. The strike will take place on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 October.

Meanwhile, the union’s Flemish wing take action designed to make passengers aware of its demands without causing any more than a minimum of disruption to services. The union has also called a 48 hour strike on Belgian Railways’ freight service.

On Monday 18 October action is planned in East and West Flanders and in (part of) Walloon Brabant, Luxembourg, Namur, Liège provinces.

The strike action in Wallonia could have an impact on train services in Flanders and Brussels. On Tuesday 20 October it will be the turn of rail workers in (part of) Walloon Brabant and Hainaut to strike and for rail workers in Antwerp and Limburg provinces to stage a day of action.

While Walloon rail workers plan to strike, the Flemish wing of the union plans days of action on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The unions are taking action in protest against the Federal Minister Jacqueline Galant’s (Francophone liberal) strategic plan for the railways.
