Three-year-wait rule for new provisional licence scrapped

From next year those that have allowed their provisional driving licences to expire will no longer have to wait three years before applying for a new one. The Flemish Transport Minister Ben Weyts hopes to have legislation in place that will scrap the three-year-wait rule by the start of next year.

The rules governing provisional driving licences were changed in February 2014.

Anyone that had allowed his or her driving licences to expire would have to wait three years before applying for a new one. Those that could wait that long could opt to take six hours compulsory lessons with a driving before taking their driving theory exam.
