Coldest September since 2001
This September was the coldest September since 2001. According to figures released by the Belgian Met Office (KMI, photo) on Thursday the average temperature last month was 13.5°C, 1.4°C lower than the normal September average.
First impressions would lead us to believe that last month was a pretty normal September weather-wise. However, the KMI’s figures show that it was the coldest September in 14 years.
The KMI’s David Dehenauw told the press agency Belga that the cooler temperatures can be explained by the prevalence of north-easterly winds last month, as opposed to the south-easterly winds that normally prevail during September.
As regards precipitation, there was less rain (59.1 mm) last month than in an average September (68.9 mm). However, it did rain on more days (21) than the September average of 15.7 days of rain.
