Belgium pockets first silver medal

Discus thrower Philip Milanov has landed a first medal for Belgium at the Athletics world championships in Beijing. The Bruges athlete came second behind Poland's Piotr Malachowski.

Milanov first threw 60.06 metres, improved this to 64.38 metres in his second attempt and threw 66.90 metres in his third throw. This throw improved Milanov's own Belgian record.

Malachowski won gold with a throw of 67.40 metres. The Belgian silver medalist is 24. He is the first Belgian to win a silver medal at a world championship.
