Standard ousted, Anderlecht meet Spurs

Standard de Liège were ousted by Norway's Molde in the Europa League play-off phase. The Reds almost made it, though, but a 3-1 victory at home was not enough. Molde took it thanks to an away goal after the double tie ended 3-3 on aggregate. Standard's fiasco leaves Belgium with two clubs in the Europa League group phase: Club Brugge and Anderlecht. Anderlecht will meet Tottenham Hotspur.

Standard had lost it in the first leg, everyone agreed after the 3-1 win in Liège on a wet and rainy evening. In Norway, Standard had one of their worst performances of this season, losing 2-0.

The Reds had to storm forward in the return leg and did so, but the Molde equaliser at 1-0 dashed Standard's hopes. A late goal by Adrien Trebel in stoppage time took the home team to 3-1, but it was too little, too late.

Vice-champions and Cup winners Club Brugge and Anderlecht will represent Belgium in the Europa League Group phase. The draw took place around and this is the result:

GROUP D: Napoli (Italy), Club Brugge, Legia Warsaw (Poland), Midtjylland (Denmark)

GROUP J: Tottenham Hotspur (Eng), Anderlecht, Monaco (France) and Qarabag (Azerbaijan)

The first two in each group advance to the round of 32.
