Goffin through, the rest out

It wasn’t a good day for most of the Belgians competing at the lawn tennis championships in the London suburb of Wimbledon. Steve Darcis, Ruben Bemelmans, Ysalite Bonaventure and Yanina Wickmayer all lost their matches on the second day of the championships.

Ruben Bemelmans (ATP 95) was the first Belgian to take to the court on the second day. He lost to the Spaniard Roberto Bautista (ATP 22) in three sets 1:6, 3:6, 6:7 (6:8).

Then it was the turn of Steve Darcis (ATP 80). The Belgian also fell foul of a Spaniard, losing his match against Feliciano Lopez (ATP 16) in three sets 6:2, 7:6, 6:4 .

Ysalite Bonaventure (WTA 199),who had already fail to qualify for the singles lost her first round doubles match with her partner, the Hungarian Katalin Marosi. The duo lost in three set 6:1, 4:6, 6-2 against the Russians Margarita Gasparyan and Alexandra Panova.

Victory for Goffin

Our only winner of the day was David Goffin (ATP 15), although he didn’t have it easy to start against Britain’s Liam Broady (ATP 182). David Goffin won the first set with some difficulty 6:7 (3/7).

The second set was a walk in the park and it finished 1:6. It was a similar picture in the third set. Game, set and match to Goffin with a score of 6:7 (3/7), 1-6, 1-6.
