Belgian F-16s have taken out 107 IS targets in Iraq

The two Belgian Air force F-16s that are based in the Middle East as part of an international mission against the Islamist terrorist group IS have already taken out 107 ground-based targets. The place have been carrying out airstrikes against IS targets in Iraq from their base in Jordan for the past 6 months. The Belgian Air Force carries out around 5% of the coalition’s air strikes.

According to the commander of the Belgian Air Component Major-General Frederik Vansina, the Belgian planes have carried out operations against IS targets in Northern Iraq at the request of the Iraqi Army or Kurdish militias.

Major-General Vansina adds that the operations have been completed “without any collateral damage”.

Meanwhile, 30 Belgian military personnel have been deployed to train Iraqi soldiers before they go off to fight IS.

The commander of the Belgian Land Component Jean-Paul Deconinck told the press agency Belga that the Belgians are in “a very safe place” near to Bagdad international airport.
