A bitter-sweet victory for Club Brugge

Club Brugge are now certain of finishing the weekend top of the Belgian First Division after a 3-0 home win against Mouscron-Péruwelz. However, Club’s first win in 4 games also had a down side as Victor Vazquez was carried off injured.

On paper Club Brugge should not have had any trouble seeing off a Mouscron team that had lost all of it 9 preceding matches. Nevertheless, the league leaders failed to score in a first half that ended 0-0.

The second half saw Club go on the offensive. Izquierdo opened the scoring for the West Flemings on 50 minutes with Tom De Sutter making it 2-0 two minutes later. It was all Club from then on. Timmy Simons put the final nail in Mouscron-Péruwelz’s coffin from the penalty spot on 87 minutes to make for a final score of 3-0 to Club Brugge.

The result sees Club Brugge remain top of the league with 55 points from 28 games. Mouscron-Péruwelz remain next to bottom with 23 points.
