Club Brugge widens lead at the top

KV Oostende failed to throw a spanner in the works of Club Brugge’s title hopes. In what was the first of this weekend’s First Division games, Club made the most of errors made by the referee and by the KVO keeper Ovono. An early red card for KVO’s Musona meant that the Ostend team were never really able to prove a match for a Club Brugge side that now has a commanding lead at the top of the table.

The match was just under way when the match referee gave a somewhat dubious red card to KVO’s Musona.

Down to ten men after just 6 minutes of play, KV Oostende were unable to offer much in the way of resistance to a well-organised Club Brugge side. KVO received a second blow on 13 minutes when Izquierdo put Club Brugge one-up.

A blunder by the KVO keeper Ovono in the second minute of the second half saw Gedoz make it 2-0 to Club.Ovono went some way to putting things right with some excellent saves preventing Club Brugge from widening their margin of victory.

KVO never looked like they were going to salvage anything from a game that ended 2-0 in Club Brugge’s favour.

The result sees Club Brugge go 8 points clear at the top. KV Oostende is 10th with 28 points. Both the extent of Club Brugge’s lead at the top and KV Oostende’s position in the league table could change depending on this weekend’s other games.
