Wins for Anderlecht, KVO, Zulte Waregem and Charleroi

Five of this weekend’s First Division games were played on Saturday evening. Second-placed Sporting Anderlecht hardly broke sweat in their 2-0 win away at Waasland Beveren. KV Oostende continues their climb up the table with a 2-0 home win in the West Flemish derby against Cercle Brugge. Sporting Charleroi enjoyed the largest margin of victory with a 6-0 home win against Lierse SK. Zulte Waregem took all three points after a 1-0 away win against Mouscron-Peruwelz. The match between Westerlo and KV Mechelen ended in a 1-1 draw.

Anderlecht a strong second

A Steven Defour penalty on 25 minutes and a Denis Praet (photo) goal in the third minute of injury time were enough to give Sporting Anderlecht victory in their away game at Waasland Beveren.

Anderlecht’s Leander Dedoncker was sent off for his second bookable offense just before the final whistle and together with Defour and Mbemba will miss Anderlecht’s Boxing Day match again Westerlo. Anderlecht now have 37 points from 20 games and are second. Waasland-Beveren is 14th with 20 points.

Zebras go goal crazy

Sporting Charleroi made light work of defeating bottom club Lierse on Saturday.

2 goals from Fauré (5 and 62 minutes), a goal each for Diandy, Coulibaly and Ndongala and an own goal by Lierse’s Swinkels made for a full-time score of 6-0 to the Zebras.

The result sees Sporting Charleroi move up to 5th place with 31 points from 20 games. Lierse SK remains bottom with just 14 points.

Onwards and upwards for KVO

In a West Flemish derby match devoid of much excitement KV Oostende did what it had to do.

A Siani (photo) penalty on 36 minutes and a Wilmet goal in the 3rd minute of injury made for a final score of 2-0 to KVO. Cercle’s Kristof D’Haene was send of on 53 minutes for his second bookable offence of the game.

The result sees KV Oostende move up to 8th in the league with 28 points from 20 games. Cercle Brugge remain next to bottom with 17 points.

A narrow win for Zulte Waregem

An Aneke goal on 40 minutes was enough to give Zulte Waregem a 1-0 victory away to Mouscron-Péruwelz.

Zulte Waregem’s Mendy was sent off 2 minutes from time for his second bookable offence of the game.

The result sees Zulte Waregem move up to 10th place in the league table with 25 points from 20 games. Mouscron-Péruwelz is 11th with 23 points.

All square between Westerlo and KVM
