Luzon no longer Standard’s Coach
A string of poor results has seen Standard take just 12 points from their first 11 games.
Discontent among the fans boiled over during Sunday afternoon’s game against Zulte Waregem that was stopped for more than 10 minutes as angry fans threw missiles onto the pitch.
The game was eventually stopped before the end of injury time with the score at 2-1 to Zulte Waregem.
After the match fans staged a protest calling for Guy Luzon dismissal and Chairman Roland Duchâtelet’s resignation.
Mr Duchâtelet (bottom photo, left) and Guy Luzon drove to Sint-Truiden’s Stayenveld Stadium to discuss the worsening situation at Standard.
After the meeting it became clear that Guy Luzon no longer had a future as Coach at Standard. On Monday he bid an emotional farewell to the Standard players.
Assistant Coach Ivan Vukomanovic will take over ad interim.
Despite no longer being First Team Coach at Standard, Guy Luzon has not been sacked by Mr Duchâtelet. “He will remain active within our network of sister clubs (these include Charlton Athletic and Carl Zeiss Jena)”, Standard said in a press statement.
