Plenty of goals in Saturday’s games
4 of this this weekend’s 8 First Division games were played on Saturday evening. Racing Genk’s Coach Alex McLeish saw his team win for the first time since he took over earlier this month.
The Limburgers won 2-1 away at Mouscron-Péruwelz. Later, Sporting Anderlecht enjoyed at 3-2 home win against Cercle Brugge. AA Gent won by the same margin at KV Oostende.
Westerlo made light work of Lierse SK, winning by 6 goals to 1.
Mouscron - Péruwelz 1 - 2 KRC Genk
All of the goals in KRC Genk’s 3-1 away against Mouscron-Péruwelz fell in the second half.
Cissé open the scoring for Genk on 53 minutes. Mouscron-Péruwelz didn’t lose heart though and they continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Man of the match Mboyo scored Genk’s second goal on 82 minutes and despite Diaby making it 2-1 4 minutes from time Mouscron-Péruwelz were unable to salvage anything from the game. The 2-1 victory was KRC Genk’s first away win since 15 February.
However, the win has something of a bitter-sweet taste for the Limburgers as their Ghanaian midfielder broke his left tibia and will be out of action for at least three months. Genk is now 7th with 11 points from 8 games.
Mouscron-Péruwelz is 5th, also with 11 points, although this could change depending on the results of Sunday’s games.
Ten-man AA Gent wins at Ostend
Despite playing the second half a man down, AA Gent enjoyed at 3-1 win away at KV Oostende. The Buffaloes opened the scoring on 14 minutes through Pollet (photo). However, KV Oostende drew level on 43 minutes through a Siani penalty.
AA Gent went down to 10 men just before half time when Sven Kums as given his second yellow card. Despite being a man down AA Gent were able to score to late goals to give them victory.
Depoitre scored on 84 minutes and in the 3rd minute of injury time to make for a final score of 3-1. AA Gent is now second in the league with 16 points from 8 games. KV Oostende is 3rd with 13 points.
Anderlecht still top after 3-2
The league leaders Sporting Anderlecht enjoyed a 3-2 home win against Cercle Brugge. Anderlecht took the lead early on with a 7th minute goal from Mitrovic (photo).
However, Cercle equalised 10 minutes later and it wasn’t until the stroke of half time that Suarez put Anderlecht in front again. Victory appeared to be seal for Anderlecht when Najar made it 3-1 ten minutes from time.
A Kabanaga goal for Cercle on 90 minutes made for a final score of 3-2 in Anderlecht’s favour. Sporting Anderlecht remain top with 18 points from 8 games. Cercle Brugge is 11th with 9 points.
Goal feast in Westerlo
Despite going a goal down when Hafez scored for Lierse on 22 minutes, Westerlo made mincemeat of the visitors with a 6-1 home win on Saturday evening.
Westerlo’s goals came from Gounongbe on 29 minutes, Aoulad (41 and 45+2 minutes), Koffi (53 and 76 minutes) and Schouterden (90 minutes). Westerlo is now 4th with 13 points from 8 games. Lierse remains bottom with 5 points.
