Champions League: Last minute nightmare for Anderlecht

Anderlecht Football Club tied with Turkish football club Galatasaray in last night’s Champions League match. An unfortunate result for the defending Belgian champions, as the Turkish equaliser was scored in the last minute of stoppage time. Player Steven Defour’s conclusion mirrored the feelings of the club: “We should’ve won here.”

Anderlecht made a solid impression throughout the game by playing offensively, with some excellent chances during the first half. Early on in the second half, Praet scored for Anderlecht. Galatasaray tried to turn the tide, but Anderlecht easily averted their attacks.

A much-needed victory and three points seemed within arm’s reach, but Galatasaray player Burak shattered Anderlecht’s hope by scoring the equaliser in the 92nd minute.

“I’m disappointed for the boys, they played really well and came very close to the victory. This was a wake-up call”, said trainer Besnik Hasi at the end of the match. “However, I’m very pleased about our performance, we just need to become more efficient and make sure we take the lead early on.”
