Buffaloes break the spell in Mouscron

In football, AA Gent managed their first away win in the domestic competition, taking it 0-2 at relegation-threatened Mouscron-Péruwelz. The battle for the top-6 places is a fierce one. KRC Genk kept their hopes alive with an easy win against Eupen, while Ostend thrashed Westerlo 5-0.
Agile Moses Simon may have scored a goal, but the referees ruled the ball hadn't crossed the line.

AA Gent hadn't won a single of their first 7 away matches in the top flight so far, drawing 3 times and losing on 4 occasions. This statistic had started to haunt the ambitious Buffaloes, the 2015 champions, but they managed to turn the page in Mouscron.

Former top scorer Jérémy Perbet made it 0-1 after the break, with agile substitute Brecht Dejaegere building the road to 0-2, causing a penalty late in the match which Kenny Saief converted.

AA Gent again had a phase where the ball was thought to have crossed the line, but the goal was not allowed. It had happened earlier this season at Eupen as well. The Belgian competition has no technology yet for this, although there are talks going on. Gent-coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck is getting impatient: "In the worst case, we will pay for it ourselves."

A fierce battle for the top-6

The battle for the top-6 tickets is a fierce one this season, with as many as 9 teams having a good chance to make it into Play-off 1 for the league title finale in April and May.

Racing Genk boosted their hopes with an easy 2-0 win against Eupen. KV Oostende, who have a more comfortable position, whipped Westerlo 5-0 (photo below: defender Milic after scoring). Kortrijk, also battling for a top-6 spot, were held to a 1-all draw at Waasland-Beveren.

This afternoon sees the summit match between Zulte Waregem and Anderlecht. Other top-6 contenders Standard (in Mechelen) and Charleroi (receiving Lokeren) also come in action.

Leaders Zulte Waregem enjoy a 2-point bonus on Oostende and 3-point gap with AA Gent and defending champions Club Brugge.
