Anderlecht suffer shock defeat

In football, Anderlecht have suffered their first league defeat of the season. The loss was even more a surprise as it came before their home crowd, and against bottom-of-the-table Westerlo (1-2), who posted their first win of the season. The result leaves Anderlecht in 2nd place, 4 points behind leaders Zulte Waregem.
Michael Heylen was applauded by... the Anderlecht fans.

Anderlecht failed to find their best football and Westerlo, under their new head coach Jacky Mathijssen, played well-organised. Anderlecht managed to wipe out a surprise lead for Westerlo (after Michael Heylen (photo) had stunned the Brussels club with a header), but Westerlo scored late in the game to take it 1-2 anyway.

To make things even more painful, the Westerlo hero Michael Heylen is... on loan from Anderlecht. He even received a round of applause from the Anderlecht crowd. Anderlecht continue to have a major problem in defence, the game showed.

In other action late on Sunday, KRC Genk were thrashed by KV Kortrijk 4-1. Leaders Zulte Waregem have 19 points from 8 games, while Anderlecht, Standard, AA Gent and Charleroi all have 15 points. KV Kortrijk are 6th with 14 points.
