Impressive KRC Genk beats lacklustre Club Brugge
A world class-goal from Ndidi (bottom, photo) opened the scoring for KRC Genk 15 minutes.
Club created chances and a shaky Genk defence meant that the visitors came a little too close for comfort on several occasions.
The former KRC Genk player Jelle Vossen looked especially dangerous for Club.
Pozuelo made it 2-0 to Genk with a goal on the counter attack on 42 minutes. Disaster struck for Club Brugge in the first minute of injury time when Meunier put the ball past his own keeper to make for a half time score of 3-0 to KRC Genk.
Club would have required a second half miracle if they were to salvage something from the game. Despite an enthusiastic start they failed to put a dent into Genk’s lead. The home side’s lead widened yet further with Uronen’s goal on 73 minutes.
Two Club Brugge goals in less than 5 minutes from Vormer and Meurnier gave the West Flemings fresh hope. However with just a few minutes left to play it all proved too little, too late.
The result sees KRC Genk narrow the gap with the top 3 to just 1 point. Genk is 4th with 33 points. Club Brugge is still top with 38 points. However, this could all change if Anderlecht take all three points from their visit to AA Gent on Thursday evening.
