The dark horse in the final sprint

In football, KRC Genk posted a second win in the season-ending Play-off 1 competition, winning 1-2 at Zulte Waregem. Although they will probably come short for the league title, in-form KRC Genk could become the revelations of these play-offs and could play a determining role.
Racing Genk have the momentum at exactly the right time.

Genk lost 1-0 in Anderlecht on the first day of play, but only after an own-goal. The Limburgers next trashed KV Oostende 4-0, continuing their fine run in Waregem yesterday. Genk have the momentum at exactly the right time. Team coach Peter Maes wants to keep a low profile to keep the pressure off: "Nobody's is talking about the league title. We are only talking about third place."

Genk receive leaders Club Brugge next, and also third-placed AA Gent next weekend. This will determine how far their ambitions can reach.

With the classic Anderlecht-Club Brugge still to be played tonight, Club Brugge (38) enjoy a 4-point bonus on AA Gent and Anderlecht (34). KRC Genk (30) follow close behind, while KV Oostende (25) and Zulte Waregem (23) see their European hopes seriously dented. They have to take 4th place to have a chance to clinch the last European ticket, against the winners of Play-off 2. We're only at day 3 of a total of 10 days of play in the play-offs.

In Play-off 2, KV Mechelen suffered a surprise defeat against Charleroi, 2-3 after winning their first two matches.
