Late Okaka goal seals it for Anderlecht

In Sunday evening’s Play-off I and Play-off II action, Sporting Anderlecht took all three points from their visit to Zulte Waregem, while Standard de Liège drew one-all at home against KV Kortrijk.

Sporting Anderlecht moved up to second place in Play-off I after a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Zulte Waregem. A goalless first half saw Zulte Waregem lose two key players to injury. Karim Essikal left the field on a stretcher on 26 minutes after a collision of heads with Anderlecht’s Kara.

Just 8 minutes after play resumed Christophe Lepoint was forced to leave the field with an open wound to his leg after it had made contact with Okaka’s studs.

With all these stoppages, ten minutes of injury time was played at the end of the first half. The second half saw Praet put Anderlecht up on 54 minutes.

However, Zulte Waregem weren’t going to take things lying down and Leye scored an equaliser on 65 minutes. The game seemed to be heading towards a draw until Okaka (photo) scored a world class goal to put Anderlecht 2-1 up.

The result sees Anderlecht move up to second place in the Play-off I table with 34 points, four points less than the leaders Club Brugge.

Ten-man Standard draw one-all against Kortrijk

Despite losing Samy Mmaee who was sent off after just 7 minutes of play, Standard de Liège were able to salvage a point from the home game of their Play-off II with a one-all draw against KV Kortrijk.

Both goals came in the first half with Papazoglou putting the visitors ahead on 12 minutes and Maniatis equalising from the penalty spot on 31 minutes. After 2 games Standard lead Play-off II Group A with 4 points. KV Kortrijk are second with 2 points.
