Late goals put Buffaloes back on top

Two goals in the closing minutes of their home game against Mouscron-Péruwelz saw AA Gent victorious in the first First Division game of the weekend on Friday evening. It was none other than the prodigal son Mbark Boussoufa that scored AA Gent’s first goal of the match in what was his first game for the Buffaloes since returning to Belgium.

AA Gent started the evening second in the league with Mouscron-Péruwelz being second to bottom. Nevertheless, with the exception of an early chance for Moses Simon, Mouscron-Péruwelz’s managed to successfully contain the Buffaloes for the first half hour.

Simon left the field injured on 27 minutes and was replaced by Mbark Boussoufa who has returned to AA Gent after an absence of almost 10 years.

Boussoufa’s return seem to inspire the Buffaloes and the last 15 minutes of the half saw them create more chances.

Despite efforts from Depoitre and Dejaegere the half ended goalless.
The second half saw Mouscron-Péruwelz push forward with efforts from Vaccaro and Oussalah testing Sels.

As the half wore on AA Gent gradually started to take command. Castelletto cleared a Vagner shot from the line for Mouscron-Péruwelz. The first goal of the match fell on 85 minutes through Boussouffa.

Milicevic’s goal in the first minute of injury time mean that it was over and out for Mouscron-Péruwelz. The result sees AA top the league with 55 points from 26 games. Mouscron-Péruwelz is 15th with 23 points.
