AA Gent stay top after 2-1 win

A victory in the East Flemish derby against Waasland-Beveren means that after 24 games AA Gent remain top of the Belgian First Division. Earlier in the evening Club Brugge went top for just two hours after beating Sporting Lokeren 2-1. A fourth win in a row saw Club Brugge take all three points from their home game against Sporting Lokeren.

Lokeren took the lead on 11 minutes through Harbaoui. However, the visitors’ joys was short-lived as Refaelov equalized just a minute later. It was Refaelov too that put Club Brugge ahead on 28 minutes. A lacklustre second half heated up towards the end with Lokeren going flat out for an equalizer.

Harbaoui had the chance of the half, but his shot was saved by an alert Club Brugge keeper Butelle and the score remained 2-1. The result saw Club Brugge got top on the number of games won for two hours.

However, AA Gent’s win in the last game of the weekend means that they are now second with 49 points from 24 games. Sporting Lokeren are 9th with 28 points.

Buffaloes come back from behind in East Flemish derby

Despite going a goal down after Buatu scored for Waasland-Beveren on 16 minutes, AA Gent were able to claim victory in Sunday evening’s East Flemish derby.

The Buffaloes equalized through Laurent Depoitre on 18 minutes. However, it wasn’t until 20 minutes from time that Dejaegere (photo) scored AA Gent’s winning goal. Waasland-Beveren Thibaut Moulin was sent off on 90 minutes for his second bookable offence of the game.

The result sees AA Gent remain op with 52 points from 24 games. Waasland-Beveren is 13th with 25 points.
