Wins for Genk, Standard, Charleroi and Zulte Waregem
Standard got off to a dream start taking the lead on 4 minutes through Dossevi. OH Leuven pushed forward in search of an equalizer. However a mixture of bad luck, poor judgement and excellent work by Valdes were enough to deny the home side a goal.
Despite OH Leuven having the lion’s share of the chances it was Standard that scored. Boschilla (photo) shot the visitors 2-0 up on 26 minutes.
The second half saw OHL push forward and create chances. However an alert Valdes was always there standing between them and the goal that would have brought them back into the game.
The match ended 2-0 in Standard’s favour. The result sees Standard remain 7th with 34 points from 24 games OH Leuven is 14th with 23 points.
Kabasele goal keeps Genk in 6th place
Racing Genk did what it had to do on Saturday evening. After Standard’s win at OH Leuven, Genk needed to beat Kortrijk at home if they were to remain in the top 6.
And win they did thanks to a 21st minute goal from Kabasele. The only dark spot in the evening for Racing Genk was Pozuelo's sending off on 90 minutes for his second bookable offence of the game.
The result sees Racing Genk remain 6th with 35 points from 24 games. KV Kortrijk are 10th with 28 points.
KV Mechelen throw away two-goal lead at Charleroi
Despite being two-up at one stage in the first half, KV Mechelen suffered at 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sporting Charleroi on Saturday evening.
Verdier opened the scoring for KV Mechelen on 14 minutes and Tim Matthys made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 24 minutes. However, Sporting Charleroi had plenty of fighting spirit. Perbet gave the home side fresh hope with his goal on the half hour.
Two goals late in the second half by Baby (photo, in the middle) on 82 and Benavente on 88 minutes proved enough for Sporting Charleroi to take all three points. The result sees Sporting Charleroi move up to 8th place with 34 points from 24 games. KV Mechelen is 11th with 26 points.
Second half comeback seals it for Zulte Waregem
Westerlo remain bottom after a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of Zulte Waregem. Westerlo took the lead through Apau on 34 minutes.
However goals from Diallo on 53 minutes and Dalgaard on 59 minutes were enough to give Zulte Waregem victory.
The result sees Zulte Waregem remain 5th with 37 points from 24 games. Westerlo has just 22 points and remains bottom.
