Late goal seals it for lacklustre Anderlecht

In the first of this weekend’s Belgian First Division games Sporting Anderlecht enjoyed a 2-1 win away at Sint-Truiden. Anderlecht’s win came despite a generally lacklustre performance. The match couldn’t have started better for Anderlecht. Erichot fouled Lukebakio inside the box and was awarded and the visitors were awarded a penalty after just a minute of play.

Joeri Thielemans did the honours and Anderlecht were one-up on 2 minutes. Anderlecht were dominant and new-boy Djuricic looked strong for Sporting.

However, this all changed midway through the first half when Galhardo fooled Proto allowing Fernandes to make it one-all.
Sint-Truiden took command and almost went 2-1 up. However, Mahlangu’s was punched away by Proto. Raman headed over on the rebound.

Sint-Truiden were the better team earlier in the second half. Raman forced a good save out of Proto. The Anderlecht fans that had travelled to Limburg were not best pleased. The chanted for the dismissal of the team’s coach Besnik Hasi. Sint-Truiden deserved more than just a point, but football can sometimes be a cruel game.

Anderlecht’s Sylla put the visitors 2-1 up on 84 minutes and this remained the score until the final whistle. Sint-Truiden’s Angban was sent off in stoppage time for a foul on Defour.

The result sees Sporting Anderlecht move up to second place, although this can change depending on the result of the match between Club Brugge and Sporting Lokeren on Sunday. Sporting Anderlecht have 47 points from 24 games. Sint-Truiden is 12th with 26 points.
