Late goal seals it for KVO

In the last of the weekend’s Belgian First Division games KV Oostende beat Westerlo by one goal to nil. The result sees KVO finish the weekend in third place, level on points with second-placed Club Brugge, but with one less victory under their belts.

The first one and a half hours of Sunday evening’s games produced little if anything in the way of goalmouth action. A well-organised Westerlo succeeded in keeping the KVO forwards at bay.

The best chance of the first half fell to KVO’s Musona. However, his shot went well over the Westerlo goal. The second half saw efforts from Canesin and Cyriac come to nothing for KVO Oostende.

The game seemed to heading for a goalless draw until the KVO substitute Akpala headed his team one-up in the first minute of stoppage time.

The result sees KV Oostende finish the weekend second with 34 points from 17 games. Westerlo remain bottom with 12 points.
