League-leaders beaten by Second Division opposition in cup tie

The league-leaders KV Oostende were the only of the 14 First Division teams playing in the Belgian Cup on Wednesday evening to be knocked on by lower league opposition. The team currently 4 points clear at the top of the Belgian First Division lost their tie at home against Royal Football Club Antwerp by 2 goals to 0.

Antwerp’s goals came from Owusu on 22 minutes and Biset on 71 minutes.

Of the other First Division clubs in action only Sporting Anderlecht had any trouble seeing off their lower league opponents.

Although Anderlecht eventually won their match against Fourth Division Spouwen-Mopertingen 3-1, it wasn’t until the 89th minute that Leander Dedoncker put them 2-1 up with Suarez making it 3-1 in the second minute of injury time.

The games other goals came on 65 minutes (a Tielemans penalty for Anderlecht) and 75 minutes with Moussa Diallo’s goal for Spouwen-Mopertingen.
