Club Brugge are back in business

In Sunday evening’s two Belgian First Division games, Club Brugge enjoyed a comfortable 5-1 home win against Waasland-Beveren while the match between Sporting Charleroi and Sporting Anderlecht ended 1-1.

Keen to forget his club’s humiliation in the Europa League on Thursday, the Club Brugge Coach Michel Preud'homme made four changes to his starting 11.

Out went Meunier, Bolingoli and Diaby, Vazquez and in came De fauw, Dierckx, Vossen and Vanaken. Club started off on the attack. However, an on-form Waasland-Beveren keeper Henkinet was strong throughout much of the first half. Waasland-Beveren too had their chances with Langil being their big danger man.

It wasn’t until five minutes before half time that Club Brugge opened the scoring with a shot from Man of the Match Dierckx. An own-goal by Jans made for a half time score of 2-0 to Club. Dierckx made it 3-0 just a minute into the second half and it was pretty much over and out for Waasland-Beveren.

Jelle Vossen’s (photo) first goal for Club Brugge made it 4-0 and De fauw made it 5-0 to Club on 76 minutes. Milosovic’s goal for Waasland-Beveren 2 minutes from time was simply too little, too late for the East Flemings. The result sees Club Brugge move up to 7th place in the league with 13 points from 8 games. Waasland-Beveren are 8th with 10 points.

Charleroi and Anderlecht share the points

The first half of the game between Sporting Charleroi and Sporting Anderlecht saw Charleroi have a couple of good chances through Pollet.

However, Anderlecht were just a shadow of the team that performed so well in Monaco in the Europa League on Thursday. The Anderlecht Coach Besnik Hasi brought in Okaka for Conte for the second half. This paid off as it was he that put the visitors one-up on the hour.

Sporting Charleroi’s equalizer came from the penalty spot that was awarded for pushing inside the box by Tielemans. Perbet’s (photo) spot kick beat Proto to make it even Stevens.

In the remaining quarter of an hour of the match t was Charleroi that came closest to scoring through Stevance. However, it was not to be and the score remained 1-1. The result sees Sporting Charleroi move up to 13th place with 8 points from 8 games. Sporting Anderlecht are second with 15 points.
