Sint-Truiden victorious in Limburg derby
Genk looked out of sorts while Sint-Truiden were on a roll. STVV’s Dompe saw the Genk keeper Köteles standing a metre in front of his goal, shot and hit the bar.
Racing Genk failed to produce anything in the way of goalmouth danger for the rest of the half and the half-time score was 1-0 to Sint-Truiden.
Second half goals
KRC Genk received another blow early in the second half when Mbombo made it 2-0 to Sint-Truiden on 51 minutes. Mbombo goal came after some excellent work from Dompé. It was Dompé that scored Sint-Truiden’s third goal of the evening.
KRC Genk’s only goal of the match came from a Buyens penalty. After the penalty the match descended into a slapstick act between the players of both teams.
However, this changed nothing for KRC Genk and the match ended in an historic victory for Sint-Truiden.
The result sees Sint-Truiden go joint top of the league with 10 points from 5 games. KRC Genk is 7th with 7 points.
