Victories for OHL and AA Gent

The final two matches of the weekend in the Belgian First Division were played on Sunday evening. The Champions AA Gent moved to within 2 points of the leaders KV Oostende after a 1-0 home win against Sint-Truiden. Later in the evening, Oud-Heverlee Leuven (OHL) picked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 home win against Sporting Charleroi.

Sint-Truiden started their game away at AA Gent on the defensive. However, it wasn’t until after about quarter of an hour of play that AA Gent had their first chance at goal. Milicevic first headed over and then had his second effort blocked by the Sint-Truiden keeper Dutoit.

Sint-Truiden created danger on the counter-attack. The AA Gent keeper Sels was forced to save an effort from Mbombo in order to keep a clean sheet.

The Buffaloes' goal came on 28 minutes when Depoitre (photo) found the back of the net. Sint-Truiden suffered another setback when Edmilson dropped out through injury.

The second half saw AA Gent create few chances early on. The best chance of the half fell to Sint-Truiden. However, although Dompé had beaten Sels, his shot hit the bar. AA Gent too came close to scoring through Raman and Coulibaly, but it was not to be and the match ended 1-0 to the Buffaloes. The result sees AA Gent with 8 points from 4 games. Sint-Tuiden have 7 points.

Party time in Leuven

Oud-Heverlee Leuven fans were able to celebrate their team’s first points since gaining promotion with a 2-0 home win against Sporting Charleroi.

Both OHL’s goals came in the second half. John Bostock opened the scoring on 49 minutes from the penalty spot.

The penalty was awarded after Martos had brought down Ramacle inside the box. OHL made it 2-0 through Trossard 5 minutes from time and it was over and out for Charleroi.

The result sees OHL move off the foot of the table. They now have 3 points from 4 games. Sporting Charleroi has five points.
