Gilbert wins 18th stage of the Giro

Philippe Gilbert (BMC) has won the 18th stage of the Tour of Italy, the Giro. It was the Belgian cyclist’s second stage win of the race. Despite slipping back on a hill climb towards the end of the race he was able to catch up again with the leading group and push forward to claim victory in the stage.

Twelve riders were involved in the final sprint. These included Philippe Gilbert and his French team mate Amaël Moinard .

In the end it was Philippe Gilbert that came out on top winning the stage with a time of four hours, 4 minutes and 14 seconds, 47 seconds in front of the Italian rider Francesco Bongiorno.
