Draw not enough to keep Anderlecht’s title hopes alive?

Anderlecht started on the offensive and took an early lead with Najar (small photo) putting them one-up from a corner on 9 minutes. Standard’s goal too came from a set piece.

Ezekiel shot home from a free-kick that had been awarded after he had been fouled by Deschacht. The goal meant that it was 1-1 on 22 minutes.

The second half saw Standard on the defensive. Although Anderlecht at times looked threatening they were unable to create any real chances.

In the closing minutes, Standard came close to scoring. However, Trebel’s shot hit the bar.

Two red cards fell in injury time. Anderlecht’s Chancel was Mbemba given his marching orders for a foul on Legear, while Standard’s Ezekiel received his second booking for applauding the referee’s decision to send Mbemba off.

With two games left Sporting Anderlecht is second with 42 points. Standard de Liège is fourth with 37 points.
 

Sporting Charleroi’s dreams of European football are still very much alive after a 5-2 home win against KV Kortrijk. In an exciting first half, Charleroi took the lead on 2 minutes through a Kebano penalty. KV Kortrijk equalised just a minute later through Marusic.

Charleroi was soon back in front thanks to a Coulibaily goal on 7 minutes. Kortrijk’s Stijn De Smet made it even Stevens on 38 minutes.

However, Charleroi ended the half 3-2 up, as Ndongala had scored his first of 2 goal on 42 minutes. It was Charleroi all the way in the second half and goals from Ndongala on 46 minutes and Tainmont on 59 minutes made for a full time score of 5-2 to the Zebras.

The result sees 5th-placed Sporting Charleroi move to within a point of 4th-placed Standard de Liège. The Zebras have 36 points, 3 more than 6th-placed KV Kortrijk.
