Red Devils go top of Group B
The Red Devils dominated the first half, taking an early lead when Manchester United’s scored his third goal in three days for Belgium on 9 minutes. Earlier Axel Witsel had shot just wide for the Red Devils.
The Belgians remained in the driving seat creating a string of first half chances. However, Belgium failed to widen their lead.
Kompany sent off
The second half saw a more confident Israel go on the offensive. There were some good long-range shots at goal from Natcho and Zahavi.
After about an hour of play Belgium lost control of the match. Eden Hazard’s substitution and the sending off of Captain Vincent Kompany (photo) for his second bookable offence of the the game were instrumental in turning the table.
It was all Isreal for the final half hour of the game. Thankfully for Belgium Chealsea’s Tibault Courtois was on hand to produce a string of excellent saves and the match ended 1-0 in Belgium’s favour. Belgium’s next international game is on 12 June against Wales in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
