"I'm so proud of myself. I can't believe I've done so well."

Belgian teen Luca Brecel has made it through to the semi-finals of the Welsh Open Snooker Championships. In his next match he meets four times world champion John Higgins.

The Belgian is ecstatic: "I still can't believe how well I've done."

In his quarter-final match against Ricky Walden Brecel came from 3-0 behind to win 5-3.

"I only gained self-confidence when I took my first frame. I told myself I'm going to make it exceedingly difficult for Walden to win this match."

"My great strength is my reluctance to give up. You don't get many opportunities in championships like these so why give up?"

Aged twice as old as Brecel John Higgins has tons of experience, but the Belgian 19-year-old oozes confidence: "I believe I can manage it. Above all I want to enjoy the match. John Higgins is a great champion, one of the best players ever and a nice guy. I like to play against him."

"I hope this can be the beginning of a nice series. I still have to train a lot and believe in myself. I'm so proud of myself. I can't believe I've done so well."

In the event the Limburg teenager proved no match for Scotland's John Higgins, though Brecel did give him a good run for his money. Higgins beat Brecel 6-4.
