Injury time goal seals it for 9-man Standard

A goal in the 4th minute of injury time was enough to see Standard take all three points from their game at AA Gent on Sunday afternoon. The victory came despite Standard having played for almost an hour with ten men after Enoh was sent off on 37 minutes.

A confident AA Gent got off to a positive start. However, after Depoitre’s unsuccessful effort for the Buffaloes, it was Standard that drew first blood. Igor De Camargo (photo) made the most of a blunder by Sels to put the visitors one up on 12 minutes.

AA Gent’s response was swift and Dejaegere deflected a Raman shot past Thuram to make the score all square on 16 minutes. AA Gent were dominant, but Standard were able to contain the Buffaloes.

However, Stardard’s organisation took a knock when Enoh floored Dejaegere ten minutes from half time and was promptly sent off by the match referee Boucaut.

The second half saw AA Gent besiege Thuram's goal, but lack the ability to create real scoring opportunities. Standard held out, even after Milec had to leave the field with an ankle injury and they were reduced to nine men.

An eventful climax to the match saw AA Gent’s Asare get sent off in the second minute of injury time. Things got worse for the Buffaloes 2 minutes later when clumsy defending by Neto allowed Mujangi Bia (photo) to make it 2-1 to Standard.

The result sees Standard move up to 7th place with 30 points from 20 games. AA Gent is 6th with 31 points. Both Standard and AA Gent could slip back a place if Sporting Lokeren win their match against KV Kortrijk on Sunday evening.
