"Nothing learned from the previous failure"

In football, defending champions Sporting Anderlecht swallowed a humiliating 4-2 defeat at Moeskroen-Péruwelz. It's Anderlecht's third league defeat this season. Meanwhile, the "Blokes" of West-Flemish club KV Kortrijk continue their fine run, climbing to second place.

"I apologise to all our fans for this offday", Anderlecht defender Olivier Deschacht tweeted after the match. It was indeed another offday for the champions from Brussels, after they were defeated by Sporting Charleroi two weeks ago, and their third loss of the season.

Moeskroen-Péruwelz are newcomers in the top flight. They enjoyed a good start, but ended up in the doldrums later on. They were motivated though by the visit of the reigning champions. Kevin Vandendriessche, one of the many Frenchmen in the team, had already made it 2-0 after 10 minutes of play and Anderlecht never recovered from this double blow. "I thought we had learned our lesson", Anderlecht coach Besnik Hasi (small photo) told reporters, referring to the Charleroi debacle, "but I was obviously wrong. We lacked the right mentality, except for the substitutes. What else can I do? I have no other players. We should all take a good look at ourselves in the mirror."

The Blokes are doing well

In other action, KV Kortrijk (dubbed the 'Kerels' or 'Blokes') cruised past KV Mechelen (3-0), a fifth consecutive win that lifts them to second place in the standings (although other teams still have to play). KV Kortrijk won 10 of their 18 matches so far; not a single club does better in a season where many teams are losing points. (photo below: striker Teddy Chevalier has just made it 2-0 for KVK).

Hull City killers Sporting Lokeren failed to move past lowly Cercle Brugge (0-0) but retain their place in the top-6. KV Oostende squeezed past Lierse SK (2-1) thanks to a last-gasp effort by veteran striker Björn Ruytinckx. On Friday, Waasland-Beveren had taken 3 precious points in the battle against relegation as they stunned Westerlo (1-2) with a shock away win.
