Wins for KRC Genk, Charleroi and Waasland-Beveren

Four of this weekend’s Belgian First Division games were played on Saturday evening. There were victories for Sporting Charleroi, KRC Genk and Waasland-Beveren against Westerlo, Cercle Brugge and Mouscron-Péruwelz respectively. The match between KV Mechelen and KV Oostende ended in a goalless draw.

Despite a lacklustre performance, KRC Genk were able to take all three points from their trip to Cercle Brugge. Genk’s Mboyo scored the winning goal for the Limburgers 5 minutes from time.

The result sees KRC Genk move up to 4th place in the league with 28 points from 17 games. Cercle is next to bottom with 13 points.

Three valuable points for Waasland-Beveren

Waasland-Beveren took a valuable three points from their home game against Mouscron-Péruwelz. Mouscron had gone ahead with a Diaby goal on 43 minutes.

However, Emond put Waasland-Beveren back on level terms ten minutes into the second half. Mouscron-Péruwelz played the last half hour with 10 men after Monteyne was sent off for his second bookable offence.

The winning goal came from Destorme in the final minute of play. The result sees Waasland-Beveren move up to 13th place with 17 points from 17 games. Mouscron-Péruwelz is 11th with 20 points.

Onwards and upwards for Charleroi

In an exciting game with plenty of action at both ends, Sporting Charleroi managed to get the better of Westerlo. Westerlo opened the scoring on 10 minutes through Schouterden, only for Tainmont to bring Charleroi level 6 minutes later.

Ruyssen’s own goal on 62 minutes gave Charleroi a 2-1 lead. Ruyssen put things right 7 minutes later when he scored at the right end.

However, Marninos’ (photo) goal 20 minutes later was enough to give Charleroi victory. The result sees Charleroi move up to 7th with 25 points from 17 games. Westerlo is 10th with 21 points.

Goalless draw in Mechelen

Despite having plenty of chances, including a penalty, to take all three points KV Mechelen could only manage a goalless draw against KV Oostende.

Great work by the KVO keeper Didier Ovono prevented KV Mechelen from scoring. The result sees 12th with 20 points. KV Oostende is 9th with 22 points.
