A missed opportunity for Club Brugge

Club Brugge missed out on the chance to join Sporting Anderlecht at the top of the Belgian First Division after their match away at Sporting Charleroi ended in a goalless draw. Despite the score line, the match was not devoid of chances, especially in the early stages.

Mata shot just wide for Charleroi, before shooting just over minutes later. Houdret and Fauré too had chances for Charleroi.

Club Brugge’s first half chances came from Meunier, Vormer and Vázquez. The Club Brugge substitutes Castillo and Oularé also failed to score for the West Flemings.

Club Brugge pushed forward in numbers during the closing states of the game. Martos deflected a Gedoz shot and the Charleroi keeper Penneteau was on hand to save a shot from the Brazilian during injury time.

The draw was a fair result that sees Club Brugge slip to third place in the league with 25 points from 14 games. Sporting Charleroi is 12th with 16 points.

Westerlo beaten at home

From the first time in more than 2 years Westerlo lost a home game in the league. The honour of breaking Westerlo’s extraordinary run of good home form went to the other team that gained promotion from the Second Division at the end of last season Mouscron-Péruwelz.

Westerlo took a first half lead through Annys on 19 minutes. Diaby’s 38th minute goal for Mouscron-Péruwelz made for a half time score of 1-1.

Anice Badri’s two second half goals on 71 and 88 minutes were enough to give the visitors victory. The result leaves Westerlo 7th with 20 points from 14 games. Mouscron-Péruwelz are 11th with 17 points.
